Superstition Wilderness
2017
This project has a starting point several walks carried out in the Superstition Mountains, USA, namely the Boulder Canyon and Peralta Trail, which follow the path of the famous mines of Peralta family. Located in Arizona Desert, this is an inhospitable and dangerous area for the human being, where only under very special conditions it is possible to live. The vegetation of cacti takes the role of an anthropomorphic and almost animated protagonist taking over landscape in replacement of human being.
“Vaz enters a terrain characterized to the east by Matorrales and Carrascales and to the west by steep slopes, almost vertical. These layered images, weightless by their pale luminosity, ocher and golden, suggest a tactile approximation to the topographical element and, consequently, to its mythical and legendary dimension".
