A Natureza do Deslumbre, 2022
This film assembles visual fragments from a journey undertaken by Vaz in 2016 along the historic gold path, Caminho do Ouro - an ancient route threading through Brazil's diverse landscape. Initiated during an artist residency at Pivô in São Paulo, this visual follows a chronological journey, progressing from Paraty to Ouro Preto. The imagery functions as both memory and resistance, carefully documenting remnants of untouched nature and offering a reflective look into landscapes historically traversed by Indigenous peoples, enslaved Africans, muleteers, and countless other individuals whose histories intertwined along these paths. Today, of the original 710 kilometers, only about ten percent survives in a genuinely wild state— hidden within mountain ranges and remote areas, symbolizing the delicate continuity of cultural and environmental memory.
