The representation of landscape through painting has always been subject to strict and formal codes. Landscape, a place of disorder against order, represented in the city and in law, whether in the Renaissance, in Classicism or in Romanticism, obeyed, in its representation or in its recreation, the determinations of a conception of the world that prevailed in each of these times. Today we still inherit from the Romantics the myth of a pure nature. Mankind´s meeting place with the self. But everything is just that, a myth. Pedro Vaz deconstructs these codes, making us aware of a series of representations that never reach the pure truth of their subject. Today, the representation of space is a continuous recreation of history, with the consciousness and in the making of the past contemporary. To which we must add the passage of time, in a movement that fascinates and at the same time numbs the senses, like the imperceptible movement of the hands of a clock. Luísa Soares de Oliveira, 2006
